Pregnancy Yoga

Tuesdays 7:00 - 8:00 pm
St Magnus Centre

Pregnancy yoga has so many benefits for both mum and baby. It's important to keep up your strength as labour is hard work! We balance strong poses with relaxation to help you get the best of both worlds. When you find time to relax your baby gets to enjoy all those lovely feelings as well. Building this practices is great birth prep as this calm state is where birth happens with the most ease. We'll practice breathing techniques that help you to relax quickly and deeply and create a space you can let go of your day.

When we fully dial down we can also create a space for bonding with baby before birth, a known way to build the mum and baby bond even before baby arrives.

Stretching in the poses is also great for keeping your joints mobile, especially your pelvis! The stretching is a great balance to active parts of class that help up build that stamina and strength for labour.

Yoga Class

Tuesdays 8:15-9:15

St Magnus Centre

An in-person evening yoga class perfect for those with young children, which you can attend for as long as you like. This class has a strong Astanga (and Vinyasa) base and is designed to provide equal opportunities for relaxation, strengthening and stretching out, all in the serenity of low lighting. Sara has 13 years of yoga experience and qualified as a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance International in 2019. She fell in love with the refreshed feeling that strength-building flows practiced in warm temperatures can bring, but through the next decade came to also appreciate the relaxation, rest and deep stretching of Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga. She brings her experience of managing and healing her own injuries through yoga into the sequences she teaches.

Please allow at least 9 months post-birth before attending. This class is not designed for women who are pregnant, although if you have a strong yoga practice before you became pregnant, it could be suited. Please speak with me in advance: sara@orkneybumptobabysupport.com

Postnatal+ Yoga

Older Babies  -  Fridays 12:30-1:15 pm

Younger Babies  -  Fridays 1:30-2:30 pm

The St Magnus Centre, Palace Road, Kirkwall

It's important for proper postnatal recovery to reintroduce exercise slowly, Mum and Baby Yoga provides the perfect opportunity for this.

The younger babies class is for the pre-crawling stage and focuses on rehabbing the core for mum. The class alternates between exercises for mum and stretches and songs for baby. Even through the exercises for mum, we include baby with eye contact, peak-a-boos, kisses, and wiggling fingers. The goal is to create connection between mum and baby while giving mum an opportunity to practice appropriate post-partum exercise.

The older babies class is for the post-crawling / pre-walking stage and focuses on the next level of post-partum recovery for mum, which is restablisation. The class is much more 'mum-focused' and usually includes more time to flow through the yoga practice.

The two classes are a great combo and prepare you well for the evening postnatal+ class.
